Visiting Training Camps

Goring Gap Rowing Club welcomes other clubs wishing to run their training camps from our site. We have a wide, 6km stretch of the Thames between Goring Lock and Whitchurch Lock in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The river is only shared with Pangbourne College.

We are a 70 minute drive from London, a few miles off the M4 and 40 minutes from Oxford.

Charges

We charge £10 per rower per day. Coxes and coaches do not pay.
You can hire our touring boats in the picture below for £25 each per day. Racing boats are available on request. Our launches (we have 2: a safety rib and coaching launch) cost £50 each per day (any part/all of the day). Visitors pay for fuel.

We also have a slipway to the river if you want to launch your own support craft. Please note there is no footpath along the river from the Club so coaching has to be done by launch.

Places to stay

Streatley youth hostel is a four minute drive away. Hillfields Farm is just up the hill with 8 rooms and there is a campsite on the neighbouring Beale Park. There is accommodation for higher budgets in Goring, for example The Swan and The Miller of Mansfield. It is not possible to stay overnight on our site.

Facilities

Our facilities are adequate but basic. We have rainwater flushing toilets, rainwater for washing boats, a large gas urn for heating water for hot drinks (the water is brought in large containers) and solar power for lighting, small appliances and charging points for phones and cox boxes.

There is outside seating, and plenty of space for relaxing in the shade between outings. Bring a gazebo or borrow ours.

The Future

We have plans for mains water, indoor toilets and a fully decked out indoor seating area and kitchen on a mezzanine floor but that is coming later in 2024.

If you are interested please email our visitor co-ordinator. Reservations require a deposit. Easter is a very popular time so book early.
