The flood waters have receded (although there are still some deep puddles). We cleared out the shed this morning and as we expected, there wasn’t any significant damage.
We celebrated by going for a row – and subject to the normal risk assessments, regular Saturday and Sunday sessions are back on. We look forward to seeing you on the river – but bring wellies or shoes you don’t mind getting muddy.
The committee have been aware for a while that members have found it slightly tiresome to have to carry boats from the racks to the river. Accordingly arrangements have been made to move the river. Boats can now be launched directly from the racks. We hope all members will appreciate this action taken on your behalf by the rain gods.
Do you want to learn how to row? Then join us for our next Learn2Row course starting in January 2013. Learn2Row is open to all members and non-members who would like to learn how to row. If you’ve never been in a boat or have only tried it once or twice then this is the course for you.
The objectives of Learn2Row are to:
Introduce you to the sport of rowing
Teach you the British Rowing technique in a safe and friendly environment
Provide individual coaching to help you develop your rowing technique
Build your confidence on the water
Improve your fitness and have some fun
You will receive coaching from our qualified coaches and will progress from rowing in restricted fours to rowing in one of our eights.
The Learn2Row course consists of six modules, run over a 4 week period. Each module builds on the progress made in the previous module however the course structure is flexible and will be tailored to suit the needs and wishes of the participants.
All club members are formally invited to attend the Club AGM which will be held at Goring Social Club on Wednesday 28th November starting at 7-45pm. Members will be sent a detailed agenda later this month, but the key purpose of the meeting will be to review Club activities and finances over the last year, consider any proposals (including proposals to submit a planning application on the site in Lower Basildon, and to raise annual subscriptions to £60), and to elect a new Committee for the coming year. If there is anything specific that you would like to have included in the AGM agenda, or if you wish to make your own proposal regarding the activities and rules of the Club, please can you contact the Club Secretary at email@example.com by 14th November.
