2021 Goring & Streatley Regatta Cancelled

SHORESIDE ACTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT UNFORTUNATELY CANCELLED

THE ROWING COMPETITION WILL STILL RUN BUT WITHOUT SPECTATORS

Following the government decision to push back the end of lockdown restrictions, the regatta committee has reluctantly decided that we cannot run the full regatta this year.

We are instead going to run a rowing only event with no spectators. We are confirming the details of this now and will be in touch with all the rowers. We are sure that, in spite of this change to plans, our regatta crews will still have a great day.

Anyone who has rented gazebo space will get a refund and we will be sending an email advising them who to contact. We will contact rowers with details of the alternative rowing only event. Refunds are available if you do not wish to continue.

We would like to thank all our suppliers, the landowner Mrs Bishop, Goring Unplugged for the work they have done organising the musicians and bands, Vanessa from The Catherine Wheel, our sponsor Warmingham, our partner charity Sport in Mind and all the club members who have worked so hard to try and make it happen this year.

We look forward to better times and a return to the full regatta in later years. In the meanwhile, for anyone who would like to try rowing or get back on the water after a long break, we would love to welcome you to our club at any time.

Not The Regatta – Saturday 14th July 2018

This year there will be no Goring & Streatley Regatta, but there will be a Not The Regatta on 14th and 15th July!

Saturday 14 July: Sweep racing regatta-style over a 300 metre course in fours.
Sunday 15 July: Sculling in small boats or touring quads over a 2000 metre course ’round-the-island’ time trial.

The plan is for a 9am start, continuing until early afternoon.

Hopefully we will be using our new Explore Rowing fleet of touring fours. These are easy to row, so don’t hesitate to enter, whatever your skill level.

You can enter individually or in crews. Entries of less than a full crew will be combined to form a full crew. Please state preference for category if you have one.

Not The Regatta is open to club members and more experienced crews from past Goring and Streatley Regattas.

The cost is £10 per head and all profits go to the New Boathouse.

Closing date for entries is Monday 2nd July. Email entries to race@goringgapbc.org.uk.

Next Regatta in 2019

The Goring and Streatley Regatta will not run in its traditional way in 2018. There is a huge amount of work to run the full “village fete” style regatta and we have had to compete for attention with the Goring Festival. We have decided to run the Regatta every two years, on alternate years to the Goring Festival. This will enable us and the community to give each event the focus it deserves.

Goring Gap Boat Club will run a lower key rowing-only event in 2018. We will wait to announce details while we focus on our new boathouse.

See you in 2019!
